Fun, Faith Filled Confirmation Retreats

Over a hundred youth and adults have attended our Confirmation Retreats.  Whether we are engaged in mission, tearing down walls and building walls of faith or growing in our relationship with Jesus Christ, fun and faith building is alive.  We will play games, engage in challenging discussions, sled down our hills, worship God and grow in our faith.  Our leaders for 2008 will be Dorinda Violante, Rev. Jeff Geary and we welcome our new leader Aqueelah Collier.  Holmes is very appreciative to have such young and vibrant leaders who dedicate their time and energy to make the retreats a success!  What a wondrous blessing they have been.  Don't miss out on the fun and fellowship this year, remember to put us on your church calendars and book early for the retreat.

Each retreat is $75.00 per person, which includes 4 meals and overnight lodging. 

Registration/ Arrival will be on Friday at 6:30 p.m. with dinner served at 7 p.m.  It will conclude with Saturday Dinner.

Retreat #1:              February 6 - 7, 2009                   "A Little Lower Than Angels "

We are to remember that we are children of God, made by God, loved by God, and that we are created just a little lower than angels.

Come examine how God created us to belong to God and to put our faith into action in our Church/Faith Community and in the World.

Retreat #2:            March 6 - 7, 2009                          "The Jesus Retreat"

Leader:  The Rev. Jeff Geary

      Setauket Presbyterian Church, Setauket, NY

The most important part of the confirmation process is to name and to own our growing relationship with Jesus Christ.  "Who do you say I am?"  is the central question Jesus still asks us.  Utilizing paint, visual art, songs, drama and prayer, students on this retreat will explore their relationship with Jesus and His claims for their lives.  All students and leaders should have read the gospel of Mark (takes about 1 hour), and know when and where they were baptized, and bring something that symbolizes their relationship with the Church.

Retreat #3:            March 27 - 28, 2009                       "Youth with a Purpose "

      First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica, Jamaica, NY

 

Do you ever ask where do I fit in the Church?  How can I make a difference?  Come investigate God's call to youth in the church.  Discuss issues of faith, church membership and what living in Christian community means as youth find their fit and purpose.  Examine youth's vital role in the life of the church.  You do make a difference!

Retreat #4:            April 24 - 25, 2009                      ( to be announced)

• ALL RETREATS WILL BE HELD AT THE NUNEMAKER CENTER AT HOLMES PRESBYTERIAN CAMP & CONFERENCE CENTER,  A SKI-LODGE TYPE FACILITY WITH FIREPLACES, BUNK BEDS AND PLACES FOR RECREATION.

• Registration/arrival will be on friday at 6:30 pm, and dinner will be served at 7pm.  retreat will conclude with Saturday dinner served at 6pm.

• A pillow and blanket are on each bed... bring a pillowcase.  any additional blankets, sheets, bedrools, sleeping bags, etc. need to be brought with you.  Also bring towels/ washcloth / soap, toilet articles, Bible, pajamas.  Remember the temperature at camp is 10 to 15 degrees colder than that at home!
• The $75 non-refundable fee must accompany your registration form.  make checks payable to your church.  give your form and fee to your church staff people.

TO CHURCHES REGISTERING FOR A WEEKEND

• EACH RETREAT WILL BE LIMITED TO 60 PARTICIPANTS.  A MINIMUM OF 20 PARTICIPANTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO HOLD THE RETREAT. 
• EACH CHURCH IS EXPECTED TO PROVIDE 1 ADULT FOR EVERY 8 CONFIRMANDS.
• DO NOT SEND PERSONAL CHECKS FOR EACH REGISTRANT TO HOLMES.  AFTER RECEIVING REGISTRATION FORMS AND CHECKS FROM THOSE REGISTERING, WRITE ONE CHURCH CHECK MADE OUT TO "PRESBYTERIAN CONFERENCE ASSOCIATION" AND SEND CHECK TO HOLMES PRESBYTERIAN CAMP & CONFERENCE CENTER, 60 DENTON LAKE ROAD, HOLMES, NY 12531
• IN ORDER TO REGISTER AND HOLD YOUR CHURCHES PLACE, A DEPOSIT OF $25 EACH, WHICH IS NON-REFUNDABLE IS DUE AT THE HOLMES OFFICE FOUR WEEKS BEFORE THE RETREAT.  ALL SIGNED REGISTRATION FORMS AND FUL FEES ARE DUE AT THE HOLMES OFFICE NO LATER THEN TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE RETREAT.  ALL RESERVATIONS ARE ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE BASIS.  
• A WAITING LIST WILL BE KEPT AND 1 WEEK PRIOR TO THE EVENT YOU SIGNED UP FOR, NAMES WILL BE TAKEN FROM IT.  FEES HELD FOR THE WAITING LIST ARE REFUNDABLE IF THE WEEKENDS ARE FULL.
